What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Fingers When Diagnosed With Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

I have been retaining some water and this morning I woke up and my left hand was a little swollen and my ring and pinky fingers were both tingling like they were asleep. I am aware of the way carpal tunnel syndrome feels because I do have it currently in the left hand and I have had it repaired in the right hand what is bothersome is that my left arm is hard to bend at the elbow because I can feel the swelling and it causes much pain is their something I should be doing?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Well, there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in a query like a sign of nerve damage, repetitive stress, injuries, bacterial or viral infections, toxic exposures, and systemic diseases such as diabetes and peripheral neuropathy.

There can be other reasons also like nerve entrapment, carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve palsy, hormonal imbalances and vitamin deficiencies ( vitamin B1. I would suggest you consult an orthopedic surgeon for proper examination.

The doctor may order CT scan, ask for certain movements and complete blood tests.

The doctor may prescribe muscle relaxants, recommend physical therapy of arm and hand along with stretching exercises and recommend particular stretching exercises.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
