On August 27 I had what was diagnosed as an ischemic stroke on the brachial synapse. Diagnosis came 3 days after symptoms started. It was through a chance remark to an MRI tech. I was having a Lower Lumbar scan when I asked if the room was really cold. He said not unusually for a hospital, and asked why I asked. I said my left side face and hand were tingling. He looked at the computer and saw I had an immediate following appoint with my Neurosurgeon. He did the scan and hustled me out to the forth floor and told the I needed to see the surgeon immediately. The surgeon told me I was to wait for a second one and a wheelchair arrived. He informed me I was I was on my way to emergency, he had called them. The end of story is just as strange. Spent overnight in hospital, they ran me through the usual battery of tests and protocol, including echocardiogram looking for the elusive hole between chambers (forgot the name). Released me on Friday afternoon and I flew to New Jersey, from Fort Lauderdale, on Saturday. Already had arranged to move my 90 year old parents to an ALS, no choice. Spent 5 days and returned to FALL. Flew to Boston 3 days later to work a golf tournament for NBC Sports (I m retired at 67 but continue to work for NBC freelance). Spent a week there and flew home to Hurricane Irma. 10 days later flew to Atlanta for another tournament. My question is simple. My wife says I need a phyciatrist not a neurologist. Medically my stats are: BP normal range, 140/80. Cholesterol level average for my age. 20 year hep C survivor, after 18 months Intron A interferon injections. Have had 3 back surgeries on the L2 thru L4. Last implanted twonspinal fusions at L3 thru L5. One spinal process fractured during surgery last November. Otherwise I m perfectly healthy Charles cowen
