What Causes Tinnitus In Left Ear Inspite Of Draining Fluid Due To Ear Pain?

I have suffer with allergies but nothing like this before have I experience. This is how it began over two months ago I woke up one morning having pain in my left ear. I went to my family doctor who sent me to ENT specialists I had fluid in this ear. This specialists have to drain my left ear twice and I now have a tube. The right ear which I had no problems with I am having pressure, ringing in it and this is also in the left ear. I am now on my third ENT specialists to seek help. The last two has no answers for me I have not had any MRI/Cat scan at all. I have not been on medicine due to the fact I am allergic to a lot of medicine they wanted me to be on. I am asking these doctors they know why??? I went to bed alright and the next morning everything has changed. I have had two hearing test and my left ear they said is some lost, but they cannot tell me why???. I am now going to yet another ENT in Philadelphia. Dr. Rynne can you provide me with some answers or suggestion would be greatly helpful to me. I do not sleep good at all and I have lost the sense of taste and smell. I know my body and this is not normal and no one has a answer. Thank you. Stefanie

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of having had removal of middle ear fluid, still has tinnitus, no MRI or CT scan hence I would advise you the following with reason:The cause of tinnitus in such a case is inflammation of the internal ear structures like cochlea and vestibule; the inflammation in cochlea causes the tinnitus and until the inflammation settles well this will not settle.Hence I would advise you the following:Ask your ENT Surgeon for MRI + CT scan called as combo-study to find the cause.Complete ENT Checkup and supportive investigations should help you to get a proper management so that a proper output is possible.Take rest.Do not blow nose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,

Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
