Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH STAGE 3 SEVERE EMPHYSEMA. NOT ON OXYGEN YET. I HAD A CAT SCAN IN APRIL WHICH DIAGNOSED THIS BUT BECAUSE THEY SEEN A SMALL NODULE IN ONE LUNG THEY DID ANOTHER CAT SCAN 6TH OF JUNE. THAT SHOWED MANY NEW SMALL NODULES IN BOTH. THE RADIOLOGIST STATED MOST LIKELY ATYPICAL INFECTION. I WILL BE HAVING ANOTHER CAT SCAN IN SEPT. BUT, I HAVE LOOKED ATYPICAL UP ON COMPUTER AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO SAY HIV OR AIDS. I POSITIVLEY DO NOT HAVE EITHER. WHAT ELSE COULD BE THE CAUSE?
Chest infection (pneumonia) can be caused by a number of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and other microbes.
Pneumonia can be caused by either 'typical' bacteria which have a well-defined cell walls such as streptococci pneumoniae, Hemophilus influenza and so on.
Clinically it is characterized by sudden onset of fever, chills, pleuritic chest pain and productive cough.
Whereas pneumonia caused by 'atypical bacteria' which do not have well defined cell walls such as mycoplasms, chalamydiae, legionella and so on.
It is characterized by preceding upper airway symptoms, myalgias, fever without chills, headache and unproductive cough.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
