What Causes Toes To Bend Upwards While Walking After A Double By-pass Surgery?

My friend had a double by-pass for heart in 2003 and had visual impairment due to that and her big toe and toe next to it go up in the air when she walks; both feet...she walks heavy footed heal first and did have some brain impairment. Is there anything she can wear on her toes to hold them down or surgery or is this permanent.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Involvement of the nerve supplying affected toes is causing her the upward bent in toes while walking. She can use suitable prosthesis on toes, to keep them in position to be decided by a pedologist in consultation with her neuro physician. She needs to consult the experts.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
