What Causes Tongue Swelling And Slurred Speech In An Elderly Person?
Hello, what does it mean with your tongue feels swollen and your speech is slurring. This is a 56 year old male, who is taking medication after having root canal work done and it became inflamed he went back to the dentist and was given medication and something for the pain. Now a week later he is experiencing this.
As per your complain it seems that swelling of tongue is causing difficulty in speech causing slurring and in case if it has happened after taking antibiotics and painkillers post Root Canal Treatment then it is probably due to allergic reaction to the medications..
So my suggestion is to consult his treating dentist and get evaluated and if allergic reaction is ruled out then changing the medication can help in relieving the symptoms..
As of now he can take antihistamines like Levocetrizine after consulting a local physician and stop taking present medications.. You should not delay going to your doctor as if swelling on tongue is increased it can cause choking and difficulty in breathing..
Hope this helps..
Regards,
