What Causes Tooth Abscess And Jaw Swelling?

I have an abscess from a bad tooth, my jaw is swollen and it's getting worse! I call my dentist this morning, he says I have to wait for the antibiotics to kick in and the infection to heal before the tooth is removed. Any suggestion? Should I go back to the emergency room? I'm hot and cold and feel dizzy.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms it seems that you have a dental abscess and swelling is due to pus formation below the root tips of the tooth..
Antibiotics takes a long time for resolving the infection so its better to consult an ENDODONTIST and get evaluated and get an x ray done and if tooth can be saved Root Canal Treatment will be initiated so that pus gets an escape way to get drained and swelling and infection will resolve faster..

If tooth cannot be saved extraction has to be done.

Dizziness and fever and cold feeling can be due to infection from tooth reaching the blood circulation causing SEPTICEMIA and body's defence mechanism tries to fight infection and there is increase in temperature..
So getting treated soon is must..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
