I am 36 years old with endometriosis and a history of uti and bacterial infections. I recently started taking megesterol and i have noticed that when i wipe after peeing there is blood on the toilet tissue. There is no blood in my pee nor any blood before i pee. Im a little concerned and not sure what to do.

Hello,
Thank you for writing at HCM.
I understand your concern with the bleeding while taking megesterol. On the other hand I would like to encourage you with the fact that it is not because something is wrong with you but because one of the common side effects of megesterol in unpredictable vaginal hemorrhage. Endometriosis causes a lot of symptoms and you need to have treatment to help with it while there are several treatments that are effective in symptom control in endometriosis. If one medication is causing side effects than there are other ones to consider.
It is very likely, by what you explain, that the blood is not from the urine and if you do not have any burning or frequency of urine at the moment it is very unlikely to have urinary infection either. Very likely the blood while you wipe is related to megestrol and the unpredictable hemorrhage that can happen with it's use but if you think blood is coming from urine, it is safer to have a urinalysis done to rule it out.
I would recommend you to speak with your doctor and get more information on treatments available for endometriosis and most likely side effects and decide on which treatments you would like to have.
If you can not tolerate well the oral hormonal therapy for endometriosis than intrauterine devices (a small equipment that is inserted in the uterus and can be kept there for several years) help with the symptoms of endometriosis while you are not exposed to systemic side effects of the oral medications and you would not need to take treatment daily. These are options to consider with your doctor before you decide your treatment for endometriosis.
I hope this was helpful and answered to your question but please feel free to write us in case of any other questions or concerns.

Best regards,
I find this answer helpful
