Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Trapped Air In Lower Back Causing Severe Pain?
In my lower back there are large air pockets that I asked my partner to massage out as they pop, my back and body is painful every day I had had possibly confirmed fibromyalgia from my doctor, but how is it best to get the air pockets out as it is very painful to move at the moment? You can put hands on the back and feel these air pockets.
The presence of air pockets palpable underneath the skin and subcutaneous tissue is only possible in one clinical condition which is surgical emphysema a dial surgical emergency. Usually it follows a heavy bacterial infection with staph aureus or other infections, uncontrolled diabetes or other immune compromised states.
However, if there is subjective feeling of air pockets in a fibromyalgia patient, the issue has to be evaluated by the clinician for expert guidelines as it may not be actual air pockets what is perceived as subjective phenomenon.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
