Hi I have a trigger thumb. It hurts at the 1st knuckle. It first started on the left hand and now on the right hand. My left hand thumb does not bother me now but the right thumb hurts first thing in the a.m. and at night before going to bed. It stiffens up quite a bit. What can I do for this?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Trigger thumb follows forceful&repeated movements of the affected joint over a long period /due to inflammation of tendons(condensed end of a muscle) nearing affected joint.
Treatment consists of medicines, physiotherapy or surgery. Please consult an orthopedic surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
