Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Trouble In Making And Keeping Friends In Children?
Hi my son had adhd, he is 6 and I worry it mat be more than that. He had difficulty making a keeping friends because he does not realize how his actions effect how people feel about him. He us quick to burst out in tears (which honestly at this point is starting to get a little embarrassing), however he does not have the more common anger tantrums at all. I m wondering how I can help him, should I follow him around prompting him when to say sorry? / calming him down when he s screeching and bawling over a broken balloon? Should I let him run wild so that his peers will eventually socially shame him into acting normal? Please help! YYYY@YYYY
I went through your details. Please understand your son is just 6. He has ADHD. That is what you told. Was he diagnosed with ADHD by a qualified person? ADHD children do have the ability to make friends, but because of their hyper activity and cognitive problems, they lack the ability to retain their friends. They are always talkative. Attention deficit happens to be only in activities that need attention. Because of all these problems, such children are irritated and confused, therefore, they cry easily.
Let him grow. Let him develop. You can use the method of "reward and punishment" moderately. Rather than you, his teachers should use these methods. Consult a psychologist for ADHD related cognitive therapy.
