Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. :) About 3 months ago, my left eyelid began twitching. At first it was nearly constant, then it became more intermittent. Today, it twitches most of the day, with only seconds/or minutes between episodes. Also, my chin will now twitch every now and then, and I can feel the nerves act up slightly in the cheek on the right side of my face causing it to occasionally twitch as well. What could be causing this? It's driving me crazy!
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Recurrent persistent twitching of eyelid can which is progressive and is associated with chin twitches also can occur due to some underlying anxiety or some nutritional deficiencies or due to tic disorders. In tic disorder most of individuals also have associated anxiety. As the symptoms are persistent so I would advise you to please consult a psychiatrist or neurologist for expert evaluation and treatment.
In most cases eye lid twitches respond to low dose of benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines in low doses relieves anxiety and this reduces the twitches. Some times muscle relaxant drugs like Baclofen can also prove useful in such symptoms. Baclofen when taken regularly reduces the twitches and help in improvement of symptoms. Please consult a doctor for prescription of these drugs.
Hope this helps you. Thanks and Take care
