Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Twitching Sensation On The Tongue, Face And Knees?
I ve been experiencing twitches for over three months. i m a healthy 20 year old girl but for some reason this is happening all over my body; my tounge, face, knees, feet, and my shin bones are starting to get this chilling sensation. ive been taking the necessary vitamins, my neurologist said the MRI of my brain is normal and she ran a blood test that looks good. but it s still happening and seems to be getting worse. I also stopped taking my birth control pills around the same time as when the twitches began, not sure if that s the problem. but i m worried as ever and don t want to think of the worst but can t help it!
Your symptoms could be related to benign fasciculation syndrome. Anyway, before coming to this conclusion, I would recommend performing some tests in order to exclude other possible causes:
- Nerve conduction studies in order to exclude neuropathy or ALS
- An EEG in order to exclude myoclonus epilepsy
- Complete blood count for anemia
- Thyroid hormone levels for thyroid gland dysfunction
- Blood electrolytes for possible imbalance
- Vitamin D and vitamin B12 plasma levels for possible deficiency.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
