What Causes Twitching Under Right Rib Cage?

I ve has twitching under my right rib strong enough to wake me up & disturb my sleep. I have no pain but you can see the movement if you look at my abdomen. Sometimes my whole abdomen twitches like reflex action. It s very regular like a pulse. Do I need to see a Dr? I have had 2 C sections & chronic constipation I take movicol for.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If it continues or worsens then you should seek medical attention.

Twitching or fasciculation of the muscles can be due to different possible causes such as: (1) electrolyte disturbance such as abnormal levels of potassium, calcium or magnesium

(2) side effect of medication

(3)kidney or liver disease

(4)peripheral neuropathy- abnormal function of the nerves in the area, this itself has different causes and can be temporary or permanent.

(5)idiopathic- no obvious cause

If the twitching continues to be a problem then you can be assessed by your doctor.
This would include physical examination and blood tests as well

I hope this helps
