What Causes Ulcers On Leg And Ankle Of A Diabetic?

My sister is a diabetic who is currently suffering with ulcers on her right leg and ankle, ( by the way they appeared a couple of days ago) She will be admitted tomorrow to find out the cause for this problem. (good news) Last week there were several tests done because with the complaint that she had of her body swelling the doctors asked her to come in for an evaluation. The good news was it wasn t the heart. They now think it has something to do with her lungs. which may not be good either. Any way what could cause her so much pain I know she will be in the best hands possible tomorrow but what could have caused all of this?

Hi. Spontaneous non traumatic severely painful ulcers can e due to vasculitis. Its seen in diabetics commonly. Another condition is called necrobiosis diabeticorum. The third would be calciphylaxis seen in diabetic renal patients. Hope they reach a diagnosis soon and your sister feels better soon. Take care.
