What Causes Uncontrollable Shivering And Sweating?

hello

My father is in his mid 80's and had a Whipple procedure for pancreatic cancer 2 years ago. He has since needed to take medication for diabetes induced by the operation. He will periodically

begin to shiver uncontrollably. The shivering lasts for hours and leaves him exhausted. He feels cold and cannot warm up. Then it is usually followed by a period ( a day or so later) of copious sweating. So much sweat that the bedclothes are soaked. He has been to many doctors. No signs of infections. Heart, lungs, kidney function and blood work are all normal. The doctor who is treating him for diabetes says his blood sugar levels seem to be in the normal range also.

Please suggest the next step to take. There has been a serious decline in general well-being.

Hi,
At this age the cause of uncontrollable shivering (tremors ) can be Parkinson's disease. As Parkinson's can cause resting tremors so the sweating (due to increase metabolism and muscle work load) and changes in thought process.io
Other cause can be thyroid gland dysfunction .
My opinion would be schedule neurologist appointment and discuss further. Also you may get thyroid profile done and follow accordingly.
Hope my answer will be helpfull.
Take care.
