What Causes Unpleasant Vaginal Odour?

I ve always been a clean person and have never had a foul odor from my vaginal area. But I ve recently started having a foul odor. It s not a fishy smell. It smells like fecal matter and I don t know why it s smelling like this. I am very anemic and have recently started taking iron pills. Could the smell be from the iron pills or is it something else?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Fecal odor from vagina could be due to a recto-vaginal fistula.
Recto-vaginal fistula is an abnormal communication between vagina and rectum.
These type of communications can result from infections and inflammations.
Iron supplements do not cause fecal odor in the vagina.
I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment and relevant investigation to find out the cause of foul odor.
A vaginal swab may also be required for micro-biological examination since there may be infection in the vaginal canal.
Management will depend on the cause of the symptoms.

Thanks and take care
