What Causes Unresolved Throat Irritation And Bad Cough?

Hello, i have had a bad cough for the last 2 weeks now and itss driving me crazy. i beleive its called a rattling cough. at first i thought it could be due to the time of year, i have allergies to the pollen tht floats outside, but its lasted too long i dont think thats what it is. my throat feels scratchy and i tend to find myself having to clear my throat every few minutes. could this be a regular flu or cold, or is it something more serious?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
If it's mainly a dry cough it could be due to allergy; avoid undue exposure to pollen by staying off the garden for a week or so, drink plenty of water and do steam inhalations; keep regular mealtimes and avoid excessive tea, coffee and other beverages as these could cause an acid reflux and subsequent cough.
If you are having phlegm or a tightness in the chest, see your doctor right away to rule out asthma or a more serious problem.
