What Causes Unusual Discharge After Having Depo Provera?
I took my second shot of depo provera and I've been having unusual discharge since then. Sometimes it is a brown color when I wipe, sometimes I see small round balls a little bigger than a pimple head when I wipe or in the toilet, and sometimes both with a light brown stream flowing down the toilet. But I also have what looks like small tissue-looking tan in color chunks when I wipe or in the toilet when I urinate. The most irritating is the blackish streaks and chunks of mucous/tissue-looking chunks. Also, all of these discharges have occurred during and after sex. Is this normal and what can I do about it?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Depo Provera is a long acting progesterone derivative and it's likely to cause irregular spotting to profuse bleeding while it's use. This side effect is more evident in early days after its use. So the bleeding pattern you have is a normal side effect of the drug.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
