What Causes Unusual Odor From Nose?

i could smell a funny odor from my nose. but the thing is when i blow or pick my nose, there is no smell at all. but after e few minutes this funny smell pops up again. i have not received any complaint yet, but will feel embarrass if someone pops the question or makes a comment.please help

Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your query the most common cause for foul smell from nose is sinus infection causing Sinusitis and inflammation of sinus caused by infection leads to a foul smell from nose..
Other causes can be nasal polyp, upper respiratory infections etc but sinusitis is the most common and probable cause..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and if sinus infection is suspected he can advise you to get a PNS view x ray as well as MRI SCAN of the sinus done to rule out for any infection or polyp formation in the sinus or nose..
For sinus infection antibiotics like Clindamycin can be advised, anti-inflammatory painkillers, saline irrigations, steroid sprays and steam inhalations can relieve..
Polyps in nasal lining or sinus can be removed surgically..

You may be experiencing this problem, mainly characterised by a rotten flesh-like smell coming from the nose. In some patients, the smell is accompanied by pressure above the temple and ear area on the left side. Some patients have tried using nose spray to solve the problem, but it did not work. To solve the issue, some patients have even tried catarrh capsules and Actifed tablets. These two may solve the problem temporarily, but it will surely recur.
