What Causes Upper Abdominal Cramps With Back Pain Around The Ribs?

I am a 62 year old female. I have a lot of upper abdominal cramping, as well as back pain around my ribs, and a lot of fatigue. Whenever I eat, I also get a lot of gas right away - i.e. burping. My lower back hurts regularly, especially after physical activity. Can you give me some suggestions as to what might be causing these symptoms? pa

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The upper abdominal cramping, gas and burping may be related to gastroesophageal reflux or may be due to use of particular foods.

Certain foods are associated with increased gas production such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, beans, turnips, carbonated drinks, brussel sprouts.
Reducing the use of these foods and using reflux medication would likely help with your symptoms.
Examples include nexium, prilosec, prevacid, protonix, pepcid

The back pain may be unrelated though excess gas can sometimes cause back pain.
You should consider imaging of the back with an x ray to determine the cause. It may be due to arthritis or other changes to the bone or related to the supporting muscles.

Fatigue occurs with any persistent illness.

I hope this helps
