Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 47 yr old woman, 135 pounds, 5'2. I woke up with severe back pain in uper back and chest. Turned on my side and felt like my chest was crushing. This lasted about 45 min or so. Should I be concerned, would this might have been a small heart attack?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query. As you had chest pain and associated back pain a cardiac cause of it should be ruled out by doing an ECG and treadmill test if needed. If that is fine it is most likely due to spondylosis or osteochondrosis of spine.A x ray spine should be taken if needed after physical examination of spine. For my patients with such condition i treat with NSAIDs like Aceclofenac muscle relaxants like Thiocolchicoside and neurotropic drugs.I also send them for physiotherapy and muscle strengthening exercises.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
