Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took pepto tablets last night and only realized after taking them that they were expired (exp 7/12). This morning I developed serious upper stomach pains and vomiting, pretty much out of no where. Did the expired pepto cause the stomach pain & vomiting?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history of taking Pepto tablets that they were expired. Developed severe stomach pains, vomiting; wants to know whether expired pepto caused this. My thoughts: Since there would have been pre-existing problems, thence only you took Pepto, only thing that the problem got enhanced as Pepto would not have been effective. There is no study regarding expired pepto or such medications. I would advise you to take another PPI, motility regulator and antacid. If no relief go for upper GI Endoscopy and further mangement under Doctor's care. Also needed will be investigations related to blood ans stool. Henceforth always take care to throw away all the medicines which are expired so that such accidents do not occur.
