What Causes Upset Stomach While Treating UTI?

I am currently being treated with antibiotics for third UTI this year. Nitrofurnatoin (or macrobid). After 4 days on dosage, I still am feeling not great, but with no pain at least. I am also sick in my stomach which may be from the antibiotic. A little scared.

Hi,

Recurrent UTI requires detail examination and consideration. You need an ultrasound of the urinary tract to see if there is no structural abnormality. Also, antibiotic use should be based on culture and sensitivity results of urine so that the specified germ should be targeted. Ideally, if the antibiotics are working, you should be feeling better after 72 hours on treatment.

However, the absence of pain might imply you are recovering. There are little side effects of drugs, the feeling of not getting well could just be as a result of such side effects. Observe a little more, if symptoms persist you consult your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have further queries, I will be happy to help.

Regards,
Dr. Achuo Ascensius
