Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was diagnosed with a ureaplasma infection. My dr first prescribed doxycycline and it seemed to work while I was using it however a week or so later the symptoms came back. I waited a few weeks to see if there was going to be any improvement but there wasn t so I called my obgyn and she prescribed me azithromyacin and that seems to have made it worse while I was taking it but I completed the 5 day treatment again to see if there would be any improvement and even used a Monistat cream in case it turned to a yeast infection which didn t help either. I m at a loss now and really don t want to keep taking antibiotics because they are killing my stomach. Do you have any suggestions I could do without antibiotics?
Treatment typically involves a course of antibiotics. The preferred antibiotics for a Ureaplasma infection are azithromycin (Zithromax) or doxycycline (Acticlate, Doryx, Vibra-Tabs). If you don't respond to treatment, your doctor may prescribe another type of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones.
If left untreated, ureaplasma can be associated with infertility, non-specific urethritis, meningitis and pneumonia. If ureaplasma has been left untreated for several months, it can spread to other parts of your body and damage your joints, nerves and muscles. So please follow your doctor religiously.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
