I think I have a uti. 2 days ago all afternoon I kept feeling the urge to urinate but when I went to the bathroom I had severe pain in my lower abdomen and I couldn t urinate. One of my friends bought a bottle of AZO and I don t have the pain or urine problem but feel bad. I am on vacation so was just planning on taking the medication until I get home on Thursday. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Urge incontinence is caused by abnormal bladder contractions.

Some advice that I can give you are:
• Go to the bathroom on a regular basis, especially before physical activity
• Avoid drinking caffeine or a lot of fluids before activities
• Do not drink any fluids right before you go to bed
• Avoid lifting heavy objects
• Lose weight
• Kegel exercises, also called pelvic floor exercises, help strengthen the muscles that support the bladder, uterus, and bowels. To do Kegel exercises, pretend you are trying to stop the flow of urine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
