Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
When I am in the gym working out at very high intensity, sustained activity with heart rate up close to max I have stop sometimes immediately to evacuate my bowels. No time to wait if you know what I mean. Is there something wrong with me? I don t see anyone else having an issue.
Usually this happens with high intensity workout and also in endurance workouts. This happens due to the blood flow to the intestines reduces as the blood flow to the extremities increases. It is not a cause to be worried at all.
Although this can be reduced and kept in check. Avoiding fatty food, caffeinated and carbonated drinks can be avoided as well, having bananas may before the workout may help, avoid warm beverages, avoiding medication like painkillers and antibiotics before and after a workout, reducing intensity, introducing intervals of muscle relaxation, drinking plenty of fluids and avoiding dehydration may help.
Let me know If I can assist you further. Hope this helps. Take care, Regards, Dr Vignan Rachabattuni
