What Causes Urinary Incontinence After Prostate Removal?

Had a prostate removed almost two weeks ago. From the time I woke up, I have leaked as much urine around the catheter as I passed thru it into the bag. Was in the hospital two nights and had to have bedding continuously changed. Every time I would get up to go to the rest room, I would leak a continuous trail of urine on the floor. I expressed my concerns to the nurses, although the problem was obvious to them, and the doctors on their very short visits daily. Could there have been a partial blockage in the catheter and could it have been cleared with some kind of a saline flush? Since release from the hospital I have been forced to where Depends 24/7. I have not been able to go out in public or work because of the strong urine smell that surrounds me even with the frequent changes. Were the doctors just not paying any attention to what I was saying?

Usually after prostrate surgery it happens that there is a leak of urine around the catheter .This complain is more common in diabetic patients. In my opinion it is because of bladder spasm(failure of the bladder to contract). Usually this condition is temporary it will improve with time.
In my patients who come with this type of complain I prescribe them antispasmodic's and anti muscarinic medicines but before that I rule out urinary tract infection.

In last there is least possibility of sphincter damage.
