Prior to back surgery on L3-L4 in 2014 I had loss of sensation when urinating. Besides taking a long time to get started I also had to bear down to empty my bladder. After the surgery it improved, not back to normal, but better. At no time was I incontinent. Now I am again having pain in lower back and left hip. An MRI shows L-5 and S-1 are impinging nerves. An x-ray shows my left hip is probably causing the pain. Now back to my bladder problem. I am again having a very difficult time getting started and need to bear down after I do, to empty. I have lost sensation. If not for hearing I would not know that I am urinating. Bearing down to get started doesn t help with that. I just have to sit, try to relax until I finally do go. I again am able to control when I have to go, so do not have accidents, but getting started and lack of sensation is troubling. I have mentioned this to my surgeon, PCP and pain management Doctor. They do not seem to be concerned. Eighteen months ago my kidneys were checked and there were no problems. Are there other tests I should have done, or is nothing to be concernd about?
