What Causes Urinary Incontinence While With A History Of Prostate Cancer?

I have almost over night lost control 0f my bladder. I have had prostate cancer and the surgery to remove the prostate followed a year later with 8 wks of radiation. I have been cancer free since 2011. How can this happen in less than a week. I have been taking oxybutynin for about a year.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, I went through your question. I understand your question about acuteness of this urinary incontinence. Radiation therapy for cancers leads to urinary incontinence after a while. Most likely patients complain of leaking of urine while coughing or lifting weights or any increase in abdominal pressure. Oxybutynin would reduce the incontinence. You can also empty your bladder before you feel like it gets filled completely. Increase your bladder emptying frequently. It may help you and if it still persists. I would suggest you to use dipers if you are actively working. If the patient is bed ridden we suggest to go for cathetarization which means urine gets collected in to the urine bag by means of urine pipe attached to urethra. Hope I cleared your concern.
