What Causes Urinary Urge Incontinence?

I am having a need to urinate frequently. I am taking oxybutynin but seems that it is not working. My wife and I are planning to fly to Argentina in the next few days. Is there a better more powerful medication to avoid this condition on the flight? I am in very good health but also do no not want to be dehydrated.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Oxybutynin doesn't help in all type of urinary incontinence. The cause for your incontinence should be ruled out. For that ultrasound pelvic scan, urine routine microscopic examination and prostate palpation should be done.

Causes for UTI, prostate enlargement etcetera should rule out if needed urodynamic flow study can be planned and then according to cause specific treatment can give. Drink lots of water to avoid dehydration. Consult a urologist for examination

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
