What Causes Urine Flow Through The Hole After Nephrostomy Tube Removal?
My husband had his nephrostomy tube removed this morning. Urine is coming out of the hole in his back in a flow equal to when he had the bag attached. We are using women's maxi pads placed over the hole, and soaking through about one per hour. We called the nurse, and were told that there would be 'leakage' for about 3 days or so. Leakage we can handle, this actual flow is concerning. A drop of urine is coming out each second or less. How concerned should we be at this point? The urine is clear in color or very lightly blood-tinged.
Hi. This is true that there can be a leakage for a few days. I hope the tube was removed after confirming that the ureter on that side is working well with IVP ( INtravenous pyelography or so.) The rule is - if the distal passage ( ureter in this case) is patent and conducting the flow to the bladder the fistula will close.
