Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor started me on Tricor yesterday for high triglycerides. Today ... I have hives on my hands and wrists. But ... I also have chronic urticaria (not every day) - how do I know if I m allergic to this medication and should I seek out medical attention?
If the reaction is severe or you have difficulty breathing then you should seek medical attention.
It is likely, since you have a previous history of urticaria , that your hives is related to your prior allergic response and it is not the tricor but there may be allergy blood test that can clear this up. It is possible to do allergy testing to different medications , you may have to find if testing for tricor allergy is available in your area.
If this is not an option then you can monitor your response to the allergy treatment. If the reaction persists though you have used anti histamines that normally work for you, then the reaction is likely related to the tricor.
I hope this helps
