What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After A PAP Smear Test?

I went for a pap smear last Wednesday. Day 15 of my period cycle. I had a bit of spotting that night and then the past 4 days have been heavy bleeding, at least 2 full pads a day. Which wouldn t be normal about of blood for only being 15 days into a cycle. Is this possible to trigger such an early period?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Bleeding after Pap smear is not possible normally. A bit of bleeding due to trauma of delicate cervical lining can be seen some times but not the heavy bleeding like you have. Pap smear does not trigger premature menstruation.

Please call your doctor for the bleeding you have. It needs to be controlled & investigated further if indicated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks.
