What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Having Unwanted 72 Pill?

Me and my gf had sex on 26th of last month. She had her periods on 15th to 22nd of last month. After having sex,she took unwanted 72. On 3rd of this month she had bleeding which lasted for 5 days. This bleeding was not much as her periods. After that, till today there is no sign of her periods. We wanted to know if we should worry about the pregnancy??

Unwanted 72 pill is used as an emergency contraceptive pill to prevent unwanted pregnancy in case of unprotected sex or contraception failure. As the name suggests, it should be taken as soon as possible, preferably within 72 hours of unprotected sex. This tablet contains levonorgestrel as an active ingredient. When the active compound gets into blood, it blocks the formation of hormones like luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).

These hormones are responsible for the development and release of an eggs from the ovaries. It is not unusual for the Unwanted 72 pill to cause irregular bleeding. You may notice some spotting or unusual bleeding which may persist until your next period. You don't need to worry about the bleeding unless it becomes excessive or if it doesn't stop. This is more common with progestin only pills like Unwanted 72 pill and they don't happen to everyone who takes the Unwanted 72 pill. If her next period is late, contact her gynecologist and get a pregnancy test.
