Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am inquiring for my 65 year-old sister who is disabled, non-ambulatory and has dementia (from too much radiation therapy eight years ago. She lives with me. A few days ago she started having vaginal bleeding. About five years ago there was a bleeding incident and the GYN said she had a fibroid tumor. No special treatment at the time and the bleeding stopped and has not returned till a few days ago. Also, though I feed her a heathy diet and she stays hydrated, she hasn t had a bowel movement infer days. I wonder if there is pressure on the tumor from the need to have a BM. We are trying to get her to have a BM ASAP. I don t know if I should make an appointment with her PCP or a GYN as soon as possible, or wait till I see how she does after a BM. Thank you.
You should consult a gynecologist and examination should be done. Pap smear should also be done along with screening for carcinoma cervix at this age to start treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
