What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Ovariectomy?

I just had an ovorectomy and started bleeding several days later. Doctor said they tried and tried to open my cervix and that was where the blood was coming from. Is that common? And how did they proceed if they couldn t get it open? I had to come home with a catheter in also. Did I get beat up inside during surgery?
