What Causes Vaginal Bleeding During Masturbation?

Hi, I am a female and 21 years old. I have a sexual question. I am not new to masturbating or sexual activity. I just finished my period a couple days ago and haven t bled for a while- but when I try to do anything to myself my vagina starts bleeding? Like the other day I thought my vagina was back to normal and I tried putting a finger in and it was fine and came out not bloody at all- but when I tried to insert a toy it started to bleed. I waited a few days to try anything else and I tried just putting one finger in recently but it started to bleed again? I am kind of concerned and I am not sure why this keeps happening. I was wondering if you have any input? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are experiencing vaginal bleeding during masturbation. It commonly occurs if you are rough with yourself and scratch your hymen or when you tear it. You will commonly have blood in your fingers when you put it in the vagina meaning you have lost your virginity. You have been using sex toys to pleasure yourself, sometimes scratching inside the vagina or cervix may be due to intense vibrations or rough usage. It may cause bleeding per vagina.

Using sex toys in the vagina without making sure that they are clean, sterilized and infection free may cause vaginal infections, vaginitis, etc. It may cause inflammation of the vaginal wall and thus swelling, irritation, abnormal discharge, bleeding and itchiness. You can apply ointment Soframycin on the cuts, tears or abrasions, maintain good hygiene.

Keep your private area clean. Wear soft cotton skirts and do not indulge in sex or any sexual activity or self pleasuring for a couple of days. Let it heal. If the symptoms remain persistent you can get clinically examined by a Gynae, you may need to get STD tests done, you will be treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

The vaginal bleeding can be due to trauma to vaginal epithelium. I suggest you to abstain from sexual activity till the problem resolves.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
