Hello.

I am afraid that such heavy bleeding with clots does not bear well with the pregnancy. It is suggestive of a spontaneous abortion.

However, there are 2 other possibilities.

1. You were not pregnant but the period was delayed and you experienced the normal menstrual flow, albeit delayed due to some reason (stress, illness, hormonal imbalance). Hormonal levels of FSH and LH and also beta HCG may help confirm this.

2. You are pregnant and the bleeding is from the lower part of your reproductive tract due to any injury/ rupture of blood vessels. This is quite unlikely, though it ca only be confirmed by an internal examination. If this is indeed the case, at 7 weeks pregnancy can be confirmed by transvaginal ultrasound.

Hope this helps. Wishing you good health.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
