What Causes Vaginal Bleeding Other Than Menstrual Cycle?

I m pretty sure I am not on my period but I am bleeding. I thought I was on my period so I put a tampon in but the blood was only on the string when I took it out. I looked in a mirror and saw that my vagina was red but the inside of the canal was not. I think my hymen broke but I m not positive. I have been bleeding for 2 days.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Usually vaginal bleeding is due to either menstruation or some injury. There are other causes of vaginal bleeding also like some growth, infection or irregular menstruation or spotting in between 2 periods. I would advise you to visit a gynecologist to find out the cause of bleeding, if you are not sure of it. Please note that irregular periods do happen in many women which has a high probability in your case other than injury.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
