What Causes Vaginal Bleeding When I-pill Is Taken 6 Days After Intercourse?
Hi my gf had her period on the 30th of March to the 6th of april we had sex on the 12th of april the morning after i got the ipill for her after 3 days she started bleeding lightly and she has a irregular period due to low blood levels do you think she may be pregnant?.
I-pill is effective in about 90-95% cases in preventing pregnancy after unprotected intercourse, if taken within 24 hours of intercourse, as is present in your case. This pill can cause an altered period to the tune of irregular bleeding, which may be light or heavy. It may also result in delayed periods and in some cases even missed next cycle.
Heavy periods, if present will persist for 2-3 days. If it is present longer, then you should see your health care provider. Also, if your period is delayed or irregular vaginal bleeding is there, then a home pregnancy test is advised after 1 week of your expected period to confirm / rule out the pregnancy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
