Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi , I have been on the contraceptive pill rigividon for a long time now and had no problems up to date. On my last week of pills I began to bleed very lightly, I assumed my body was telling me something so I decided to take my week break off the pill a little earlier . 4 days into my break I started to get really bad cramps which I have never suffered from before, I later went to the bath and had passed long white coloured tissue which was tough like skin , there was also other white mucus looking patches present, my period is heavier than normal on my break week. I have never seen this before with my period , I would love your opinion as not in the country to see my own doctor. Thank you, Also I had been taking my combined pill for a few months without a break week due to work. I have done this before and had no issues.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
You are having breakthrough bleeding because of stopping contraceptive pills without completing the 21 days cycle. Earlier stopping leads to progesterone withdrawal which is required for endometrial support. This leads to shredding of endometrial cells and capillaries causing white and bloody discharge.
So you just again start taking pills form 5th day of bleeding. Also take iron rich diet like meat, green leafy vegetables, dryfruits to prevent developing anemia.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards Dr. Hiren
