What Causes Vaginal Clots While On Warfarin And Canesten?
Im a support worker just left a 71 yr old lady with what looked like a period she said its been 20yrs since had 1 there were clots on bathroom floor just 2 but ive just realised she takes warfarin she said no pain experienced shes currently on antibiotics and using canesten under breasts groin area and under arm i advised gp visit in morning did i do right thing
Hi there! Yes you did the right thing. Warfarin probably she's on because of a Cardiac rhythm abnormality. Warfarin prevents blood from clotting inside the Body and therefore bleeding if happens when patient is on Warfarin, usually is worse and your patient probably had bleeding from her Uterus/vagina due to age related atrophy or some other pathology there which was not controlled due to Warfarin and hence the clots on the floor. Canestan(Clotrimazole) is just an Antifungal agent and usually doesn't have any effect on bleeding but certain other Antifungals like Ketoconazole may have effects on bleeding due to its effect on the metabolism of Warfarin. Hopefully this helps.
