General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for your quetion.

Two things always come to mind first when my patients complain of vaginal pain and bleeding after sexual intercourse. These are cancers of the cervix and lining of the uterus (endometrium).

This requires urgent evaluation by your gynecologist. The gynecologist would evaluate these diseases via investigations including pap smear, vaginal and cervical cultures, and endometrial and cervical biopsies. These investigations would help detect the risk or presence of cervical cancer and the presence of endometrial cancer.

However, there are other causes to look into if those two are excluded. These include sexually transmitted infections, abnormal growth in the cervix and thinning of the vaginal lining from low-dose contraceptive pills and menopause.

So the first thing for you to do is to visit a gynecologist for evaluation and commencement of treatment once the diagnosis has been determined.

I hope i have answered your question.

Please review with me if you have more questions.

Warm regards.
