What Causes Vaginal Dryness And Painful Intercourse?

Hey, for the past few months I’ve been experiencing vaginal dryness. It makes intercourse really painful and makes my vagina itch sometimes. My partner and I are both std free. I’m on the Nuva ring and the dryness has been occurring since I started the birth control. I’ve researched symptoms and usually the web talks about menopause. I know that’s not the cause because I’m only 19. Should I be concerned? Could it possibly be the birth control? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per history, you are having vaginal dryness which causes painful intercourse. Please get your estrogen level checked as low estrogen level can lead to vaginal dryness.

Estrogen cream or tablet for local application can be prescribed. Do adequate foreplay before sex that also can be the problem.

Vaginal infection, bacterial vaginosis etcetera also can be the possible cause. Consult gynecologist for examination.
