Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Vaginal Infections In Women With Breast Cancer?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer Jan 9th Triple Negative early stage two. Had a bilateral Feb 24th. Reconstruction is planned two weeks after chemo. I started chemo four weeks after surgery. My chemo was Adriamycin/Cytoxan with Neulasta every two weeks times 4 cycle. Last week I started taxol for 12 weeks. I am cancer free just preventable treatments. My questions is will I ever feel normal again? I can walk from one end of the house or to the mailbox and I get winded and heart racing. Also I have had sores on my arms and legs that fester. Horrible vaginal infections and discharge. So tired of feeling bad and not feeling like my old self. Will I ever feel normal again?
Breast cancer has got very good treatment protocols these days however it causes lot of discomfort by the medications due to its side effects. The vaginal discharge is due to fungal infection which is caused by a fungus due to lowering of your immunity by the drugs you are taking.
I would advise you to take antifungal vaginal pessaries for a long duration, up to a month or two. The problem of vaginal infection and lowering of stamina will get resolved once you complete the course of medication of breast cancer. I would advise you to take a healthy and nutritious diet to fight the weakness and improve stamina. Please don't lose hope. Things will improve slowly and you will gain all the energy back in few weeks time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
