Hello,

Vaginal itching is caused due to the following conditions:
1) Vaginitis or inflammation of vagina
2) Trichomonas infection
3) Bacterial vaginosis
4) Yeast infection
5) Sexually transmitted infections like gonococcus, herpes and chlamydia

Treatment depends upon the cause. Most common is bacterial vaginosis and the treatment is as follows:
1) Tab. Metronidazole 500mg twice daily for 7 days or tab. Clindamycin 300mg orally twice daily for 7 days.
2) Topical vaginal creams like metro gel or clindamycin 2% vaginal cream are to be applied.

If symptoms don't subside even after 7 days, you need to consult a gynecologist for evaluation of accurate diagnosis which may be any of the above mentioned infections.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
