What Causes Vaginal Itching?
intense itching at the lips of the vagina - the top and one side - no visible showing of any sore or anything, except red because of scratching but has been going on for some time - changed soaps, underwear, creams etc. - wakes me at night and is not quite as bad in the daytime

Hi, I think you should go for an examination by a gynecologist. It can be a fungal infection. Use some vaginal wash for maintaining the ph of vagina. You can take some antihistaminics. You may need oral antibiotics and antifungal drugs.
