Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Im a60 year old female that has been taking the drug called Arava 20mg once a day since May of this year haven t had a mensteral cycle for 10 years have already completely went through the change got up this morning and was spotting blood could this pill be causing this
Arava (leflunomide) has possible side effects like all medications but it is not known to cause bleeding from the genital tract.
Patients can react differently to medication but this is not a known complication of using this medication.
Since your period finished a while ago, it would be best to be seen by your doctor for assessment. This type of bleeding is called post menopausal bleeding.
It can very often be due to benign (non cancerous causes) but more serious causes need to be ruled out by physical examination, ultrasound and depending on the findings, biopsy of the lining of the uterus (endometrium).
As mentioned, it is due to benign cases commonly but it would be best to be assessed.
I hope this helps
