What Causes Vaginal Spotting And Cramps During Periods?

Hello doc,My girlfriend and I had unprotected intercourse 2 months back and as a precaution she took postinor 2. She had regular periods 2 months after(27july,23aug) but this month she experienced bleeding and cramps on the 9th Sep and spotting with no pains after. It stopped for a day and is back with no pain. I am wondering what is the cause and should I be concerned about this? Thanks

Thank you for your question.

Postinor is Levonorgestrel. It is use to lower the chance of pregnancy after unprotected sex.

The side effect is in some case breakthrough bleeding(spotting) may occur 2-3 day after taking the medicine. But to make sure you should do pregnancy test. because it is the highly chance of getting pregnancy when you have unprotected sex with the symptom of pain and spotting bleeding.

Talk to your Doctor to get a further evaluation if she has a prolong heavy bleeding.
